So what’s carbon monoxide then?

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a highly poisonous gas with no taste, no colour and no smell. It can be produced when any fossil fuel such as coal, wood or natural gas is burned and there’s an insufficient air supply. It can escape into your home if an appliance isn’t installed or serviced properly.

In the UK, between January 2006 and April 2007, there were 50 deaths, 102 incidents and 218 injuries related to carbon monoxide poisoning (CORGI 2007 Carbon Monoxide Report). So it happens to somebody. And we really hope it isn’t you.

I’ve already got a smoke alarm
