About us

As a leading energy company, npower recognises the impact of our activities on the wider community and particularly in relation to the impact of rising energy prices on vulnerable customers.

In 2005 npower created the Spreading Warmth Programme to help vulnerable and fuel poor customers.  Since the programme has started, npower has committed £9 million to the programme and we’ve helped over 100,000 customers.

In April 2008 npower in conjunction with other energy suppliers, committed to a programme of expenditure which will provide £375 million of assistance aimed at assisting fuel poor customers over the next three years.

As part of this npower has committed approximately £53 million to funding our voluntary social initiatives over this period, the majority of which will be spent on our new tariff called the Spreading Warmth tariff. We aim to have 75,000 customer accounts on our Spreading Warmth tariff by the end of 2008.

The aim of our Spreading Warmth Programme is to offer a holistic solution to helping vulnerable customers. Our programme includes debt relief, cheaper tariff, energy efficiency advice over the phone and in the home, energy efficiency measures and benefit entitlement checks.

In order to help deliver our Spreading Warmth Programme we work closely with a range of consumer groups and charitable organisations including National Energy Action, Macmillan Cancer Support, Christians Against Poverty and the Home Heat Helpline.

We also run the Health Through Warmth Programme which provides targeted support to those whose health is adversely affected by cold, damp living conditions - irrespective of whether they are npower customers. The programme has delivered over £30 million of practical help to vulnerable households including £3m from the HTW crisis fund. We have recently committed £4.5m to continue this programme for a further 3 years.
